Conservation Area 25 - Gunwharf (to be prepared)
This conservation area was designated in 1992.
The Gunwharf area (previously called H M S Vernon) forms part of the historical development of the City, beyond the original fortified town of Portsmouth and linking through to the Dockyard and Portsea.
Following release by the Ministry of Defence much of the site was redeveloped as a shopping centre and for housing. Historic buildings include the Great Storehouse (or Vulcan Building) which has been restored and the Old Customs House both Scheduled Ancient Monuments.
