Cycle parking guidance

The provision of high quality cycle parking is an important part of the City's Cycling Strategy as set out in the Local Transport Plan for Portsmouth. The cycling strategy has set the target of tripling the proportion of cycle trips by 2010 compared with a 2001 base of 5.35%.

Also within the strategy is an objective to reduce the number of cycles stolen. An effective way of both increasing cycle use and reducing theft is the provision of secure cycle parking at both the trip origin and destination.

The purpose of this guidance is to ensure developers will be able, at the earliest stages of design, to take account of the appropriate provision of cycle parking in new developments.
