A history of council housing in Portsmouth
Last updated: 06 February 2013 14:34 UKA history of council housing in Portsmouth was commissioned by housing manager, James Hill, to capture and preserve the story of Portsmouth City Council’s social housing in Portsmouth and Leigh Park. The work was undertaken and completed by the housing service's communications team and an in-house graphic designer.
It is presented in the form of a story timeline which charts the key dates through the 1900s and ends with a view of the services we provide today.
The story that emerges touches on key events in recent history from slum clearance, homes for heroes and the regeneration of housing areas designed and built in the 1960s. We hope it will be of interest for all to enjoy, especially those working for housing and living in the property we manage.
