Permitted Development Rights - changes from 1 October 2008

From 1 October 2008, significant changes have been made to permitted development rights through the introduction of a new General Permitted Development Order.

The effect of these changes will be that:

  • works previously considered to be permitted development may require planning permission if carried out after 1 October
  • works that currently need permission after this date may not

This applies in all circumstances and earlier advice given under the terms of the existing Order may not be relevant in the light of the revised Order.

If you are proposing works after 1 October, please check with us first to find out whether planning permission is required.

Some guidance is available from the Planning Portal, but we recommend that you do not rely solely on this, due to the need to interpret the advice given. Please contact us direct so that we can advise whether your proposal requires planning permission.
