Residents' consortium

Members of the resident consortium The residents' consortium is an opportunity for you to play a part in shaping the housing services you receive, as well as gathering useful information and meeting other residents and staff.

All tenants and leaseholders of Portsmouth City Council have automatic membership of the residents' consortium, which:

  • promotes the interests of all Portsmouth City Council’s tenants and leaseholders
  • builds a partnership between the council and the consortium
  • plays an active part in the formation of the council’s housing strategy, policies and practices
  • empowers tenants and leaseholders through learning and training opportunities and therefore benefiting the consortium in all its activities
  • holds monthly meetings on subjects chosen by the membership
  • attends and speaks at housing executive meetings
  • meets on specific 'portfolio' services such as repairs, sheltered housing etc
  • negotiates annual rent increases and budget decisions about how their money (rents and service charges) will be spent
  • campaigns on national issues such as rent subsidy
