Personal Land Charges Search

There is a statutory charge of £11 for inspection of the Local Land Charges Register. This is made available via a self-service PC. To speed up the process it is helpful if you can give us advance notice of your visit. Please contact the Land Charges Section on (023) 9283 4065/4063 to arrange an appointment.

Local Enquiries Search

We provide free access to statutory information (information held on statutory registers such as the Planning Register and the register of Enforcement Notices etc.). Some information is available online and there are 2 public access PCs situated in our reception area. Our City Help Desk Customer Advisors will obtain the remainder of the information for you.

From 9th June 2008 there will be a charge of £40 to access non-statutory information (such as Building Control information & the Register of Public Highways etc.), which is all fully available. The £40 charge relates to all (or part of) the Con 29 part 1 enquiries.

City Help Desk Customer Advisors will obtain the information for you, but due to the amount of information required to complete each search, this may take some time. We will try to provide the information while you wait, but there may be occasions when this is not possible. In which case we will endeavour to get back to you by telephone within 24 hours.

Both a Personal Land Charges Search and a Local Enquiries Search must be carried out in person at the Ground Floor reception, Civic Offices, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth.

Payments can be made by cash, cheque or card at the cash complex during our opening times: Mon–Thurs 8:30am – 5pm & Fri 8:30am – 4pm.

Definitions

This guide adopts the following definitions:
Personal Land Charges Search: is a search of the Local Land Charges Register carried out by a third party in person in accordance with the Local Land Charges Act 1975 and the Local Land Charges rules 1977.

Local Enquiries Search: is a search of information prescribed in the Home Information Pack (No. 2) Regulations 2007 (the information required to complete a local search is contained in Schedule 7 – traditionally referred to as Con29 Part 1 enquiries).

Personal Local Search: is a Land Charges search and a Local Enquiries search carried out by a third party.
