Unoccupied property
You must also note that for any period between tenancies, you will be made responsible for Council Tax payments. However:
- If the property remains furnished during this period, you may be eligible for a 10% discount from your Council Tax.
OR
- If the property is unfurnished* and unoccupied during this time, you may be eligible for a six month exemption from Council Tax. Please note, to qualify for this exemption, the property must have been occupied for a minimum of six weeks.
*Unfurnished properties should have sufficient furniture removed to leave the property incapable of occupation. Therefore all beds, chairs, tables, cabinets, televisions, stereos, moveable fridges/freezers and personal effects should be removed. Items such as carpets and curtains may be left in order for the property to look occupied thereby discouraging vandals.
