The cash, from Portsmouth City Council, was aimed at boosting the numbers of people who get to work by walking, cycling or using public transport – cutting CO2 emissions and congestion.
The money was available to any local company or organisation that has developed a travel plan – a strategy for greener travel. The money was for a specific project, and the applicant had to match the grant with an equal amount.
The cash could be used for projects such as:
Amanda Morris, the council’s travel plan officer, said: Lots of companies want to be greener and help their staff to do their bit too.
“Having a properly thought-out travel plan is a great way of reducing emissions and adding benefits for employees.
”These grants will help a lot of companies take the plunge and make some real changes on their premises.”
“This money will really help local companies tackle climate change and make it easier for their staff to travel without cars.”
The money comes from the government, as part of funding for the council’s local transport plan.
For further information about future rounds of the TPIF contact Amanda on (023) 9284 1332 or amanda.morris@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or read the supporting information for this year's bid.
Priority will go to organisations that have an established travel plan and are members of SignPOST, the Portsmouth forum for sustainable travel. Organisations that have developed a travel plan independently of the council can register it when they apply for a grant. However organisations that have a travel plan as a result of planning permissions are not eligible to apply.
