Portage
The Portage Service delivers home-based learning programmes for pre-school children with additional needs (0-4.5 years). The emphasis is on close partnership working between parent and professionals in support of the child.
Key Functions
- To enable the child make the best progress they can towards the early learning goals and the Every Child Matters outcomes.
- To support parents/main carers with their child's early development and education.
- To liaise with partner agencies over the continuing assessment of and planning for the child's emerging needs.
- To liaise with early years providers over transition into placement at an early years setting or nursery.
- Planning activities.
- Strengthen partnership working with Children Centres.
- Strengthen partnership working with CIPs.
- Introduction of Portage Outreach Support with behaviour focus.
- Set up Portage run groups.
- Providing training/talks eg on the Portage Model, Challenge and Opportunity of Home Visiting, Sure Start, SEN Training.
- Strengthen links with Families (parent representative, newsletters, socials, self-referrals etc).
- Develop the use of volunteers and access funding.
- Develop mainstreaming strategy for Sure Start programmes.
