How to return and renew your items
Items that you borrow can be returned to any Portsmouth library, but if you can’t get to the library by the time your items are due back, we may be able to renew them for you.
You can either telephone us on 023 9281 9311, e-mail your local branch, or write to us. Or, if you haven’t finished with your books, you may prefer to pop in with your library card and renew them without having to bring them all the way to the library. If you have your PIN, you can also renew online via our online catalogue.
Whichever way you chose, we’ll need your library card number and staff will also ask for your name to make sure that we’re renewing on the correct card.
Please remember that we
cannot renew the following items for you:
-
ALL 7 day loans such as popular videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs and they will incur the daily fine rate for each day they go overdue.
-
ALL music CDs and they will incur the daily fine rate for each day they go overdue.
- Items that have been reserved by another borrower, but we will renew them for seven days to give you time to return them to the library.
- Items that have become overdue and have reached the maximum fine of £6.00.
- Items that have been renewed five times without our seeing them at the library. If you need to renew again, just bring them into the library to be re-issued.
If you are renewing your loans late then we’ll add the fines to your account and you can pay them on your next visit.
You can return items, renew items or pay your fines at any Portsmouth public library. (Occasionally, where a problem has arisen with your borrower record, we may need to ask you to visit your normal library so that any concerns can be dealt with directly).
Fines and Charges
If you bring items back late, you will incur fines. Details of our fines and charges are outlined in the leaflet below.
