What you can borrow

The Library Service offers a very wide range of materials. Some of these are free to borrow, while others carry a small hire charge which are outlined in our Fines and Charges leaflet below.

• If you’re aged 11 and over, you can borrow any 30 items from our range of books, audio books, compact disks, videos, DVDs and CD-Roms.
• If you’re under 11, you can borrow 20 items and you can also borrow one toy as part of your allowance.

Age restrictions are observed on videos and DVDs according to their certification.

If you are a registered childminder, run a playgroup or residential home, or you are housebound, special arrangements can be made for you. Just ask at your local library, where staff will be happy to help.

How long can I keep my items?

Once you have chosen your items, you will be normally be able to keep them out for either four weeks or one week, depending on what you’ve chosen.

• Four week loans: books, talking books, recorded music, educational videos and language packs.
  Please note: if another borrower has reserved an item, we will only be able to issue it to you for two weeks, instead of four.
• One week loans:  popular videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs. These items cannot be renewed, but you are welcome to bring them to the library and pay the extra hire charge to borrow them for another week.

Fines and Charges

If you bring items back late you will incur fines.  Details of our fines and charges are outlined in the leaflet at the bottom of the page.
