How to appeal for a school place

If we are unable to offer you a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel which is set up under Section 94 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.

This right of appeal can be for more than one school. You may only appeal where you applied and have been refused admission to the school in writing.  You will then have 14 days within which to state that you intend to appeal.  If you have been refused admission to the school in writing you can also contact the school to place your child's name on the waiting list.

For further information please use the 'How to apply for a school place' link on the right hand side of the page and download the 'Information for Parents' booklet. You can also contact the Admissions Service on (023) 9284 1747 / 1972 / 1232 / 1228, or by email: admissions@portsmouthcc.gov.uk if you have any questions about the appeal process, or would like to request an appeal form.

Please note that appeals for a place at voluntary aided and foundation schools should be made direct to the schools concerned.
