Children's Centres

Did you know that there are now 13 children’s centres in Portsmouth, with 7 centres up and running and providing a wide range of services and 6 more still in the development stage.

Children's centres aim to support young children and their families from birth until five years with a range of high quality services.

Services that children’s centres may provide include:

early education and childcare
drop in sessions, music groups
family support at home and in the centre
activities, fun days and days out
child and family health services such as breast feeding support, help with post natal depression and child health clinincs
information from Job Centre Plus on training and employment opportunities

Some children’s centres activities are held at other sites in the area, such as community centres, health centres and church halls. This ensures that services and activities are within reach of all families.

It is very important that parents are involved with the services that children’s centres are providing and have an opportunity to tell us what works well for them. Some centres have well established parent forums and in others these are still being developed. If you are a parent and want to know more, please do get in touch.
