Library news

Central Library emergency closure

Central Library in Guildhall Square, Portsmouth, remains temporarily closed due to flooding. This includes the third floor café. We anticipate re-opening in mid October.

However, items can now be returned to the Civic Offices reception desk during their normal opening hours. Alternatively, residents can call the City Helpdesk on 023 9281 9311 or log on to the Library catalogue. Items due to be returned while the library is closed will not incur fines.

The nearest libraries are Elm Grove and Portsea. Their opening hours are being temporarily revised as follows:

Portsea – 023 9229 7072. Monday to Friday – 9.30am to 5.00pm
Elm Grove – 023 9282 6058. Monday – 10.00am to 7.00pm; Tuesday to Friday – 9.30am to 7.00pm; Saturday – 9.30am to 5.00pm

Central Library Reading Groups

Whilst Central Library is closed, the morning and afternoon groups will meet at the John Pounds Centre, Queen Street, at the usual time and day. The evening group will meet at Wetherspoons on Guildhall Walk.

Reminiscence Group

The Central Library Reminiscence group, starting on Thursday 26th August 2010 at 10am, will re-locate to Portsea Library whilst Central is closed. Staff will be waiting in the John Pounds Community Centre Foyer. To reserve a place in the group, please call 023 9281 9311 or email libraries@portsmouthcc.gov.uk
