School library management systems

The School Library Service supports schools in using Junior Librarian and Eclipse programmes.

Schools considering computerisation are welcome to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of library management systems in general. The first question to ask is always, “Is use of such a system appropriate for our school and in our circumstances?” We are happy to spend time helping you to consider this, and if the school decides to proceed, assisting with installation and training. Certainly it's advisable to contact us before you place an order.

We are able to export book data to schools very easily. This is a huge time saver as books borrowed and purchased through us will be easily added to your own management system and with our high quality data.

There is a regular user group for Junior Librarian and we can arrange for the software producers, Micro Librarian Systems, to visit Portsmouth schools to talk to users. The next generation of software has become available with the launch of the .Net version of the software which will allow interaction with Learning Platforms.

We continue to support schools through this transition and the issues that have arisen. Eclipse .Net is currently running in a number of Portsmouth secondary schools.

Junior Librarian .Net is due for launch in autumn 2008.
