Every one of the 3,500 state secondary schools in England will be rebuilt or improved as part of the multi-billion pound project.
BSF however, is about more than just buildings. The programme will transform the face of education for generations to come, providing environments for learning and ICT provision where every young person can maximise their potential.
We were accepted into Wave 6 of the national BSF programme in April 2008, after convincing the government that we have the vision and capacity to succeed in the transformation of learning.
Government funding of between £100 and £200 million is now anticipated to turn 'Building Schools for the Future' plans into a reality in Portsmouth.
An outline vision and plan for the city's secondary schools contained in a document called 'Strategy for Change 1' was submitted to the government earlier this summer. This included a proposed vision for learning and changes to the governance arrangements of schools.
Work is now underway on a 'Strategy for Change 2' which will contain more detailed plans on the transformation of learning. Schools with secondary age pupils are currently developing their plans for their transformation and this will be included in the 'Strategy for Change 2'.
