How to apply for a school place
Starting school in September 2009
By law, children must start school at the term after their fifth birthday. In Portsmouth, most children start school at age four. Application packs are available at your local school, or from the Admissions Service. You can also apply online - see external links. The closing date for applications is Friday 24 October 2008.If your child was born between 1 September 2004 and 31 August 2005, they will be due to start school in September 2009.
Transfer to junior school September 2009
If your child is currently in Year 2 at an infant school, you will receive an application pack during September to apply for a place at a junior school. If you have not yet received an application pack, please contact your child's school or the Admissions Service. You can also apply online - see external links. The closing date for applications is Friday 24 October 2008.
Transfer to secondary school September 2009
If your child is currently in Year 6 you will receive a secondary transfer pack during September. If you have not yet received an application pack, please contact your child's school or the Admissions Service. You can also apply online - see external links. The closing date for applications is Friday 24 October 2008.
Moving into the area
If you are moving to Portsmouth the Admissions Service will be able to provide you with information on the schools in the area and the application process. If you are moving within Portsmouth and need to change your child's school please contact the Admissions Service for information on the admission and application process.
