Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA)

The Ethnic Minority Achievement (EMA) works in partnership with schools through a process of self review and evaluation to:
  • raise the attainment of minority ethnic pupils at risk of underachievement
  • provide effective support for bilingual learners
  • promote parental partnership
  • promote cultural diversity and race equality policy and provision
EMA range of services to schools, children and young people, parents, community groups and other agencies includes:  
  • assessment of pupils' language/learning needs
  • bilingual assistance for curriculum access and pastoral support
  • support for promoting home-school links, including Family Learning
  • collaborative/partnership teaching
  • language/curriculum resource development
  • support for whole school policy development and review, including race equality policy and action planning
  • training and advice
  • activities & resources to promote cultural diversity
  • cultural and religious background information and advice
The core of the service is funded by the Ethnic Minority Achievement Grant (EMAG) but EMA also manages projects funded by The Vulnerable Childrens Grant, the Childrens Fund,  Early Years and Childcare Service, Sure Start, Adult, Community and Family Learning.
