Notification of Cooling Towers & Evaporative Condensers

Notification is required to be made to the Local Authoriy in whose area the premises are situated in respect of all cooling towers and evaporative condensers except:
  • Where it contains no water exposed to air.
  • Its water supply is not connected.
  • Its electrical supply is not connected.

The reason for notification is to allow monitoring of the device wih particular reference to the avoidance of Legionnaires Diseases and to be aware of the location of them in order to investigate related outbreaks.

A cooling tower is a device whose main purpose is to cool water by direct contact between that water and a stream of air. 

Evaporative Condenser means a device whose main purpose is to cool a heath exchanger which is itself cooled by contact with water passing through a stream of air.
