Healthy Workplace
Work Health and Wellbeing Hallmark (WHWH)
WHWH encourages employers and staff to take small steps towards a healthier, fitter and more rewarding workplace and lifestyle.
Designed for Portsmouth businesses, both large and small, the WHWH has been developed by Portsmouth City Council and Portsmouth Teaching Primary Care Trust. The workplace has a powerful effect on workers' health, including how people feel about themselves and their environment. This effects job satisfaction and productivity as well as health and wellbeing of staff.
The benefits of healthy workplaces for organisations and individuals alike include:
- improved productivity
- fewer insurance and worker compensation claims
- reduced absenteeism and staff turnover
- less accidents
- improved staff morale
Traditional attempts to create healthy workplaces have focused on the safety of the physical environment and preventing injuries. More recently initiatives have been designed to encourage healthier individual behaviour by providing support, information and skill training.
WHWH recognises the contribution of the business world in making life a positive and rewarding experience for employees by providing a framework for a practical approach to staff health and wellbeing. This hallmark is an opportunity for businesses to review and build upon achievements to date and recognition for their commitment to their employee's wellbeing.
