Paulsgrove Forum comments
Last updated: 21 September 2007 12:51 UKThe Paulsgrove Neighbourhood Forum gives you the chance to speak up about what’s happening on your doorstep.
Parking, crime, planning developments, policing and schools are all hot topics, which affect peoples’ lives. And forums make a real difference with receiving lottery grants to physically improve their environments and others having a real say in policies affecting their area.
So if you’ve got something to say, then your neighbourhood forum is the way to get your voice heard and make a difference to your local area.

Comment:
Are you going to tackle the road situation in Cheltenham Road? Recently with flooding and torrential rain there was a similar problem of destruction to the grass verges as seen in the Winter, where cars and trucks have parked along Cheltenham Road as it is apparent that many residents own their own light trucks and vans, which they need for employment. These vehicles are causing safety issues at times for children are moving around the area, cars have to zig zag through parked vehicles escalating issues of safety to both driver and pedestrians in particular when children and going to and from school - will the council consider making bay parking?
Response:
The resurfacing of Cheltenham Road is not included in this year's resurfacing programme. The condition of the road will be reassessed and prioritised against other similar roads in the city for potential inclusion in a future programme.
Unfortunately, there is a problem in the Paulsgrove area relating to parking on verges. Enforcement against the vehicles concerned could be considered, but this is unlikely to be popular and is not supported by the Ward Councillors. The other option to hardening the verges is unlikely to be seen as a priority by Councillors when measured against other road safety initiatives.

Comment:
Could the Safer Neighbourhood Team recommend clearly visible ‘Cul de Sac’ signs for Harwich Road because drivers leave Ludlow Road and drive into Harwich Road, when they realise their mistake they reverse and frequently damage parked vehicles.
Response:
Thankyou for you comment reagrding this matter , however I have been infomed that there is currently the appropriate signage at the entrance to this particular road : 'dead end' sign. If this sign has been removed or is obstructed please advise the City Helpdesk by either calling 023 9283 4092 or alternatively emailing cityhelpdesk@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
