Old Portsmouth Neighbourhood forum comments
The Old Portsmouth Neighbourhood Forum gives you the chance to speak up about what’s happening on your doorstep.
Parking, crime, planning developments, policing and schools are all hot topics, which affect peoples’ lives. And forums make a real difference with receiving lottery grants to physically improve their environments and others having a real say in policies affecting their area.
So if you’ve got something to say, then your neighbourhood forum is the way to get your voice heard and make a difference to your local area.
Subject: Noise and Traffic
Date: 23rd September 2007
Comment: "Noise & traffic in Pembroke Road is horrendous from land train to cars, motor scooters and buses - all breaking the speed limit (not the train). After midnight yobs swearing and shouting en-route to and from pubs at Gunwharf. Many cars scream past with music blaring and engines of high octaves. No sign of police anywhere."
Response: The land train is no louder than any diesel vehicle.Pembroke Road is a busy road and is bound to get busier as visitor numbers to the city increase. If there are issues with noise and fast driving then this is a police matter. There is nothing that we as a Highway Authority can do to intervene other than monitor accidents and complaints. If there are sufficient complaints and if these are supported by accident statistics then the Highways Safety Team would pick up on the issue but I find it hard to believe that Pembroke Road will ever be high risk enough to warrant traffic calming measures.
