Fratton Neighbourhood forum comments
The Fratton Neighbourhood Forum gives you the chance to speak up about what’s happening on your doorstep.
Parking, crime, planning developments, policing and schools are all hot topics, which affect peoples’ lives. And forums make a real difference with receiving lottery grants to physically improve their environments and others having a real say in policies affecting their area.
So if you’ve got something to say, then your neighbourhood forum is the way to get your voice heard and make a difference to your local area.

Comment: I would like to comment on the parking in Queens Road, we have a car but also my husband has his work van that he has to bring home at night and apparently if the decision is made to bring in parking permits the price has doubled for a business vehicle which we could not afford so what do we do? I think its disgusting we pay ridiculous amounts in road tax and still have to pay to park.
Response: Residential streets were not designed to accommodate commercial vehicles and in most cases there is insufficient space to do so. It is the responsibility of the company who own the vehicle to provide for its parking not the City Council. The business permit is only granted to vehicles owned by a company which has premises in the area covered by the permit scheme. If your husbands vehicle does not fall into this category he will not be entitled to a permit.

Comment: Parking - Surely all business vehicles should be taken back to the company's compound at the end of the working day, I've counted 11 rage vehicles parked in Tennyson Road at any one time, these drivers have their own cars, thats vehicles per household. Two cars per household?
Response: Many companies send their vehicles home as a matter of convenience both to them and the driver. It means they don't in some cases have to provide a yard or compound in which to keep them and reduces travelling costs for the driver. Some national companies sold off their compounds at a profit for other use which increased the number of commerial vehicles on our streets. This causes problems for other residents due to the reduction in the number of available spaces and in some areas loss of light as high sided vehicles are parked outside of house windows. These problems are one of the main reasons residents request residents parking to control this type of parking.

Comment: I have recently changed cars and I collected my new car on friday afternoon. I had to place a 12 hour parking permit in the window that night to cover the car. I do not have a problem with that. However when I went down to the parking office on Saturday I was told that I could not collect a temperary permit until Monday. I was then told that I would have to pay £12.00 to change the vehicle details. My original permit expired at the end of November and when I mentioned this I was then told that I would be expected to pay another £25.00. So to sum this up I am expected to pay:
£12.00 To change vehicle details
£25.00 To buy another permit
£4.00 To park over the weekend
£41.00 in total
£41.00 to park my car outside my own house where I pay a mortgage, bills and council tax.
Neighbours in Southsea and most other areas throughout the UK do not have to pay to park outside their own home. I understand that this scheme has reduced the parking issues and helped to reduce traffic within our streets, but how much more money does the council want to make. This scheme has been turned into a money making scheme and I feel that it is enough and that the residents of fratton should make a stand.
Their are still illegally parked vehicles outside even as I write this e-mail. I have not seen a ticket or a warden in at least 8 weeks. There are a constant stream of taxi's outside with disabled badges displayed when the driver is clearly not entitled to use this privilege.
I await your comments!
Response: Thank you for your email sent to the Neighbourhood Forums concerning your recent visit to the Parking Service to amend your vehicle registration details on your residents permit. I shall pass your comments to our Parking Department, who will come back to you shortly.
