Comment: Residents Parking Scheme - Baffins

As a decision had been made to increase parking permits PRIOR to the recent survey of residents in the Baffins area, why were forms sent out with the old costs still being quoted?

Does this not make the whole survey a farce, particularly as letters had apparently gone out to other areas notifying them of the increases?

The survey was based on incorrect figures, with residents being kept in ignorance of the proposed increases - totally against the whole ethos of open government and honest dealings with residents.  Null and void result?

Response: The original survey from for Baffins area went out in the second week of January with a closing date of 4 February 2008.  At that time the information contained in the pack was correct.

On 12 February the Elected Councillors of the city council at their budget meeting decided to increase the cost of the second and third residents permits.  This was outside of the Parking Department's control.

Following problems with some residents not receiving the first set of forms due to a printing defect at our contractors a second form was sent out for those who had not received the first one.  For consistency we left the permit prices the same.  A letter will shortly be sent out to all residents asking them if in view of the change in costs they wish to change their mind.

Other areas where residents schemes already exist will be advised of the changes as their permits become due for renewal.

Comment: Can we get white vans moved out of residential areas?
Response: A residents parking scheme is the most practical way of achieving the removal of vans, but most of the vans are driven by residents.  However, it would be useful to discuss the issues at a Forum meeting and if this is agreed, then contact the Parking Manager, who will arrange to attend the meeting.
