Portsmouth museums update - 20 September to 28 September

Here comes the latest list of exciting events and activities happening at Portsmouth museums this month.
Portsmouth Museums and Records Society lecture – Thursday 20 September
The latest Portsmouth Museums and Records Society lecture, 'Portsmouth in Old Postcards' will be held at the D-Day Museum, at 7.30pm. Dr John Stedman, archivist at Portsmouth Museums, will be talking about the city and using some beautiful old picture postcards as unique illustration. All are welcome, £1 for members of the Society and £2 for non-members.
Gallery Tour of ‘A Tale of One City’ exhibition – Friday 21 September (and every Friday until 29 October)
If you love the ‘A Tale of One City’ exhibition, here’s your chance to gain further insight with a tour lead by the museum’s specialist staff. The tour will start at 10.30am at the City Museum, tickets are £3 for adults (accompanied children are free) and £1 for Leisure Card Holders. Places are limited so please contact the museum on 023 9282 7261 to book your place.
Archive films from the Imperial War Museum – Sunday 23rd September
The D-Day museum will be showing some special archive films called “D-Day to the Liberation of France”, from the Imperial War Museum. These fascinating footage shows troop training and preparations for D-Day, and events from the Normandy Landings through to the end of the Second World War in Europe. This includes newsreel footage of the fighting around Caen, and films shot by members of the French Resistance during the liberation of Paris.
The films will be show between 2pm and 3.30pm, with a short interval, and will be introduced by the D-Day Museum’s curator. They are included in usual admission price and there is no booking required.
Eastney Beam Engine House Open Day – Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September
Come along and see the magnificent Boulton and Watt Beam Engine in all its glory, and still in its original site. Admission is free, and the Eastney Beam Engine House is open from 1pm until 5pm.
