How to take part

photo showing commuting options We are asking commuters to start your day a different way

All you need to do is leave your car at home for one or more days during the BIG Green Commuter Challenge week (Monday 17 to Sunday 23 May 2010) and try something different instead:

  • walk
  • cycle
  • run
  • bus
  • train
  • ferry
  • car share
  • motorbike/ moped / scooter
  • any combination of these
  • you could even skate, skateboard, or jog

Then record all the miles saved for all the journeys made during the week:-

  • all miles for the journey to work  (there and back again)
  • journeys during the day
  • journeys that you were going to make but avoided by making a phone call or videoconferencing instead

Add up all the miles that you have saved each day.

At  the end of the week record all the miles here on our site. You won't be able to do this until the week of the BGCC.

For those who do not have access to the web it is possible for the forms on the leaflet to be completed and returned to either the relevant workplace co-ordinator or returned to Amanda Morris, our travel plan officer.
