Household Waste Recycling Centre
The Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) at Port Solent can take the items residents are unable to dispose of in the usual household black bag rubbish, recycling bin or composting.
The HWRC is open for residents to use all year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
Summer opening times (April – September) – 8am – 7pm
Winter opening times (October – March) – 8am – 4pm
Telephone – 023 9221 9819

The HWRC is paid for by residents’ council tax and is for residents’ use only!
To prevent abuse of the HWRC and to avoid the tax-payer subsidising businesses we have installed CCTV and height barriers.
The new height barriers are to prevent trade vehicles entering the site and only allow vehicles with a maximum height of 5’9’’ (1.75m) to enter.
We understand that some householders do own vehicles that will not go under the height barrier (vans and some types of 4x4s, for example). For this reason the barriers will be open all day Friday and on Saturday mornings between 8am - 12noon, with extra Enforcement Officers on site to ensure that traders don’t abuse the system.
The security height barriers have been a great success! They have stopped many traders illegally dumping their rubbish at the HWRC and subsequently saved the tax-payer £1000s! And there’s been no reported increase in fly tipping elsewhere.
Traders Beware!
If you’re a trader and need to dispose of business waste, whether it’s paper from an accountant’s office or rubble from a building site, visit the Information for Businesses page for further information.
