Archaeology

Most ancient monuments in Portsmouth are publicly owned. Many buildings in the Naval Base and other defence establishments were formerly Ancient Monuments. These are now being included in the Statutory List of Listed Buildings and this is often followed by descheduling. We believe that archaeological and historic remains should not be needlessly destroyed and therefore take an active role in their management, conservation and recording.
