Roads and Highways

The Highways Management Service manages the day-to-day environment of the City whilst delivering sustainable strategies for road, footway and street lighting condition through a pioneering Highway Management Contract with Ensign Highways Limited. The Environment and Transport directorate regarding 'highways' concentrate on specific strategic objectives :  Networking arrangements to facilitate the movement of people and freight by minimising traffic congestion and delay : The introduction of traffic control measures such as one way streets and no entry restrictions the provision of improvement measures, particularly facilities to assist vulnerable road users cyclists, pedestrians, children and disabled people and direction signing.
