Rubbish collection

Household rubbish is collected weekly in Portsmouth. If you miss your collection, store your rubbish and recycling on your property until your next collection day - please don't leave it on the street or in an alleyway.

It is important to remember that you cannot however dispose of the following - large and bulky items, sharp or jagged materials, soil, rubble or asbestos, hazardous household waste, car batteries and gas canisters, old bikes or other scrap metal through your normal rubbish collection. Such items and materials can be disposed of at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, or alternatively a special collection can be arranged through our City Helpdesk.

All the rubbish that you dont re-use or recycle, and that is put out to be collected by our Household Rubbish crews is sent to the Energy Recovery Facility and incinerated to generate electricity for the National Grid.
