Last updated: 20 August 2010 16:23 UKThe Olympic and Paralympic Games will offer many opportunities for local residents to become involved.
The official London 2012 Volunteer Programme opened in July 2010. In excess of 70,000 volunteers will be needed for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Have a look at the eligibility criteria to see if you can make an application. Each successful applicant will be invited to attend training sessions to help with the role that they will be undertaking. There are numerous types of roles available including event stewards, supporting contestants, driving VIPs around, language assistants, medical staff and support staff for ceremonies and the torch relay.
Most of the opportunities for the London 2012 Volunteer Programme will be in London and the Olympic and Paralympic venues throughout the UK. However, there will also be many opportunities to volunteer locally.
Some examples of volunteering opportunities within Portsmouth could include:
- helping during events as marshals and general support from now to 2012
- volunteering at pre-games training camps in the lead up to 2012
- providing language services
- providing specialist medical care to the training camp
We will be updating the section soon, in the meantime if you have any queries or would like to know more information then please contact us at 2012games@portsmouthcc.gov.uk and we will respond to you as soon as possible.
