Cultural Olympiad

As hosts of the Olympics, the UK is required by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to develop a programme of cultural events.
In recognition of this a Cultural Olympiad representing the diverse cultures within the UK was launched during the open weekend in September 2008. This marked the official start of a four-year celebration of the diverse cultures within the UK to encourage every community to take part.
One of the key themes of the 2012 Olympics is ensuring that everyone becomes involved. Although London is the host city, the Games will be bringing new opportunities across the UK. In developing the Cultural Olympiad, the Games aim to fulfil this objective.
