Big Screen
Last updated: 13 August 2010 14:28 UKIn 2008, Portsmouth was chosen as one of eight cities to host a Big Screen by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). The Portsmouth screen forms part of the UK’s largest network of screens. At present there are 19 Big Screens across the UK with more being planned for the coming years.
The Big Screen is part of the Cultural Olympiad Programme of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Big Screens represent a major legacy from London 2012 because they are planned to operate not just for the years leading up to 2012, but for many years afterwards.
Over the coming months and years it is going to be a great opportunity for the local community, the public and the creative community of Portsmouth, as a focus for live events as well as a place for films, animations, digital art, photographs and interactive games to get a proper public viewing. Our aim is to encourage members from the local community to get involved and support the Big Screen as much as possible.
Key to the success of the Big Screen is the development of key partnerships that will help us create a varied and interesting mix of films. This includes local organisations, schools, colleges, universities, arts and theatre groups, volunteer groups and many more. For more information on this see how you can get involved.
